WorkFirst
WorkFirst is a cutting-edge demonstration project within hopeFound’s IMPACT Employment Services. Here’s a brief overview of what it involves.
Who does WorkFirst Serve?
140 newly housed and formerly homeless men and women over a period of three years.
How is WorkFirst Innovative?
The project quickly links each new tenant with a comprehensive range of employment services and support.
What Does This Include?
Home visits, career counseling, job search and resume coaching, job skills training, stipends to attend career-specific job training, transportation and clothing assistance for interviews, and much more.
Why is WorkFirst Important?
Newly housed and formerly homeless men and women typically receive help with health, mental health, substance abuse and alcohol issues – but not employment. They’re not considered ready for the challenge. We disagree. We believe that the sooner people start exploring the world of work, the sooner they’re going to improve their self-esteem, stability and self-sufficiency. An emerging body of research supports this belief – and WorkFirst will make a significant contribution to knowledge about the benefits of integrating housing and specialized employment services. To learn more, read The Boston Globe article about the program’s launch.
How Will You Track WorkFirst’s Results?
An independent evaluator will analyze the project’s outcomes and compare them with outcomes from formerly homeless men and women who move into new housing but do not receive employment services.
Who Are Your Funders?
WorkFirst has start-up funding from a public-private partnership including the Oak Foundation, Wal-Mart, the United Way, the BNY Mellon Charitable Giving Program through the generosity of the Alice P. Chase Trust and the City of Boston.
How Can I Help?
