Housing
Each homeless individual in Boston annually consumes $28,436 in healthcare costs. The same cost is reduced to $6,056 annually when individuals are housed*
- In the past four years, hopeFound has housed 510 individuals, including 104 in 2009 – without building any new housing.
- Affordable housing was found through new partnerships with the Boston Housing Authority, nonprofit housing providers such as Caritas Communities, and private landlords.
- 87% of those housed for at least one year kept their housing.
Employment
In Massachusetts, 57% of people living in local homeless shelters have no income**
- In the past five years, IMPACT Employment Services has achieved an average job placement rate of 60%, a rate exceeding the national benchmark
- In 2009, IMPACT placed 220 individuals in jobs, with a third making more than Boston’s living wage of $12.62 per hour.
Recovery
More than 70% of the Massachusetts homeless population reports significant involvement with alcohol and/or other substances.
- hopeFound provides addiction treatment to more than 1,000 men and women annually.
- 49% complete and graduate from hopeFound addiction treatment programs, a rate exceeding the state average of 34%. Almost all graduates – 98 % – continue in treatment.
